One of my favorites is Nenio, a scholarly spellcaster so absorbed in her studies that she views the demon invasion as a chance to quiz cultists on proper cult behaviors. It’s far more intriguing stuff than Kingmaker’s story of carving a kingdom out of the hinterlands.Īlong the way, you learn about your companions. I had two party wipes in this long, drawn-out battle). You then start taking on missions in the demon-infested town, finding allies and resources and joining in the last stand against the monsters (by far the most difficult encounter of the first act. You start taking on cultists and demons, getting a taste of what much of the first act will be like once you return to the surface. And once you get past this part and find a surprising underground civilization, the story and dungeons improve. But this small slice is the only dungeon I didn’t care for. You fight fiend-touched vermin (like giant flies), meeting and helping some good townsfolk along the way (and encountering your first party members). These caves, which don’t take that long to explore, are by far the weakest part of Wrath of the Righteous. The introductory dungeon takes you underground after the demon lord tears the town asunder. You’ve got panicked townsfolk and brave defenders fighting off the Abyssal marauders and a climatic faceoff between a dragon and a demon lord. It opens in sensational fashion, when a festival falls under attack from a rage of demons. It helps that Wrath of the Righteous has an epic storyline, one with conflict, romance, and moral choices. It’s not writing its own story, but it does have to modify one to fit a video game. Owlcat faces a challenge adapting an existing tabletop story to a video game (during this process, the studio also fired a consulting writer following accusations of sexual abuse). I also get a boost to my charge attacks (maybe it should be the path of “holy cow”).Īll of this resulted in me spending even more time than I usually do considering how I wanted to advance - not just as a cavalier, but how my choices would complement other characters (and how the choices I made for them would affect all of us). I picked the path of angels (one of nine), and I can now channel the power of good to heal my allies. The mythic progression doesn’t kick in until, at least for me, the end of the first act, when a monumental battle results in you (and your friends) not only facing overwhelming odds but also gaining otherworldly powers. And because I can choose to fill my party with up to five others who can sling spells, fling arrows, toss magical grenades, or inspire through song, I feel pretty good about my hero focusing on melee attacks. She doesn’t cast spells, but since I always pick clerics or wizards for RPGs, I relished this choice. My first run is as a polearm-wielding cavalier half-orc who loves to charge, glaive-point first, into the first foe she sees. This doesn’t even take the 13 prestige classes nor the mythic paths into account. A rogue? A monk? A bard? Heck, these are there, too, and many of the classes and archetypes blend swords and spells (or bows and bards, if you prefer). You want a spellcaster? You got about two dozen choices. Wrath of the Righteous has class - 25 main classes and 162 archetypes (aka subclasses). My favorite aspects of Western RPGs are the choices, beginning with classes and carrying over to your abilities, your weapons and spells, and the party composition and story decisions you make along the way. The V2 rules contain extensive terrain rules for forests, but I would recommend starting out with the urban environment to get a feel for the game before expanding out into other terrain types. In my games, we only used one deck with both players drawing cards. The new deck for V2 is supposed to be customized pregame, so you can through out the some cards not relevant to the playstyle you prefer. It does have an impact on the choice of commander level you want to buy. The command cards add interesting elements to the game, but when playing we generally found that they are not really needed that much. You can even print out the unit list with all their rules so it can be easily referenced during gameplay. The rules can all be accessed online, the army builder has been recently updated and is a very well made tool, all unit rules can be easily seen. Note, however, that the starter sets contain plastic minis (except maybe the Resistance one, which I think is only resin).ĭropzone was my first tabletop game and I firmly believe it is still the best I have played. A lot of the metal stuff has moved to resin over time, not sure if they are still doing anything in metal or if its fully resin production now. There are/were some minis/bits which are in metal, but there is no option as to which material you get, its either cast in that material or it isn't. The resin is good, its a bit on the brittle side but very high quality, haven't encountered (m)any bubbles and flash/mold lines are typically minimal. You don't have to play in a city per se, but you will need to work out how to handle this if not playing on urban battlefields as it will significantly effect game balance.Ħ. The game relies on being able to occupy and garrison structures, and being able to destroy them as well. Have only ever played in urban environments. I haven't seen any metal models from them it's all been plastic or resin from my experience.Ĥ. They also come with a widget that means you don't need to glue the flight stand in place which is handy for transporting things.Ĥ) Have only tried it in cities but as long as you designate what terrain can be garrisoned and the like it looks like it should work pretty well.Ħ) The ones I've had have been a sturdier resin though shaltari with their fins and what not might not be the best ones to judge it on since they have a couple of annoying bits like connections to the sprue on the delicate fins on a couple of models. I've played games with and without them and they've both been fun.ģ) Flying models should come with their own stands in my experience (haven't bought any since they repackaged things but I don't see why they'd change it). The TT site has an army builder function that covers the individual rules for the units though so you can use that if you don't want to get the book.Ģ) They're useful and add extra options but they're not as intrinsic as something like strategems in 40k. Hi, can't answer all your questions but from my experiences.ġ) I think they're in Battle for Earth. What kind of durability do they have? Are they brittle as the stuff from GW (shudder!) or more sturdier? Are there also models in metal and if this is the case do you have an option to order them in metal instead of resin? How is your experience playing DZC in other environments?ĥ) Do you know a good youtube channel for building terrain in a 10mm scale?Ħ) The models are made up of resin. Do they spice up the game like in Rumbleslam or are they not necessary?ģ) Do flying models come with their own flight stands or do you need to buy them separately?Ĥ) The game is geared towards warfare in cities. In which source book have their rules been published?Ģ) All factions have access to (random?) event cards. Though I want to ask the community a few questions first before I dive fully into this new project:ġ) The main rulebook covers all factions but the Resistance. The other two factions, UCM & Shaltari, haven't impressed me much. It's either PHR due to Appleseed & Ghost in the Shell influence or the Resistance with their Mad Max flair relying on junk vehicles and old Russian wargear. You got to love these buggers! As for the second I am a bit undecided. My favourite so far is the faction of the truly alien Scourge. So my intention is to collect two armies. Being a former "Space Marine" (Epic from the 90s) player I really liked what the devs did there. A few days ago I rediscovered Dropzone Commander ( DZC) and read it's rules in the free pdf on the interwebz. Any washer or nut that is too big to fit through the jack will do. Thread the F hole end of this wire through the jack, and tie it to a washer or a nut. This will ensure it doesn’t fall through the jack hole while you’re working on the other end. Tape the jack hole end of the wire to the guitar with masking tape, or tie it to the strap button. Make sure the wire is long enough for one end to stick out the jack hole, and the other to stick out the F hole. When you see the wire in the cavity pull it up through the F hole. Run a length of wire (approx two feet is usually plenty) through the jack mounting hole and down into the cavity. It’s best to start with the component that’s furthest from the F hole, which is usually the jack. You’ll be using extra wire to pull the electronic parts through the F hole and into their mounting holes on the body. Don’t worry: if you did everything correctly up to this point, you shouldn’t have any problems getting it back together. It’s now time for the most challenging step: fitting everything back into the guitar. Use a multimeter, circuit tester, or just plug the dangling jack into an amp and tap on the pickups. It will be very difficult to troubleshoot problems once the controls are back in the body. At this point, I strongly recommend testing your wiring before proceeding. Once you’re satisfied with your wiring, solder your pickup leads to the controls. If you need to know how to wire up the components, Seymour Duncan has plenty of good wiring diagrams to help you. You will not cause any problems by using a little too much wire, so don’t be afraid to make long connections. If your wiring is too tight, it will be very difficult to get it back into the guitar. Always use more wire than you think you will need. Wire up your pots, switch, and jack on the template. It’s also a good idea to write what is supposed to go where on the template with a marker. You can enlarge the holes with a pencil or a round file until they are big enough for the controls to be mounted snugly. To make the template, put a piece of non-corrugated cardboard over the guitar, use finger pressure to find where the control holes are, and very carefully poke through the cardboard with a punch or a nail to make a hole for your template. It’s a good idea to make a template for your wiring on any guitar where the controls aren’t mounted to a pickguard (like a Strat) or a control plate (like a Tele). Set aside any components you want to re-use, get any new components ready to wire up, and heat up your soldering iron if you haven’t already done so. Removal of the old components is now done. Just feed the leads of the new pickups back through the holes in the pickup cavities. If you’re replacing the pickups as part of your re-wiring, you can do this now (I did not in the example photographed here). You can either de-solder the pickup wires or use wire cutters to clip them off. I use a hand towel to protect the finish.Īt this point you should have the pots, switch, and jack out of the guitar with the pickup wires still connected. Start with the components closest to the center of the F hole (usually the switch) and work your way back, using the wires to pull components toward the F hole. You should now be able to gently extract the pots and switch through the F hole. The pots and switch will fall through into the cavity. Once the knobs are off, you can use your wrench to remove the nuts from the pots, jack, and switch. I use a rag wrapped around the knob to pull them off without scratching the finish. Start by removing the pickguard and putting it aside. I’ve included plenty of pics to help illustrate each step. You won’t need any uncommon tools or equipment – just a wrench set (or an adjustable wrench), plenty of wire, a pair of needle-nose pliers, a soldering iron, and a bit of patience. My tech charges extra for doing electronics work in a hollow-body, and he’s definitely not the only one.įortunately I did some research, performed some trial and error experimentation on my own semi-hollow (a very nice Epiphone Dot) and found what I consider to be the best way to wire up a hollow body guitar. In fact, it’s widely considered to be one of the most difficult jobs in the wide world of guitar maintenance. Have you ever looked at a semi-hollow or hollow body guitar on the wall at your local music store and wondered how the heck they get the electronics in there? The short answer: it’s do-able, but not easy. The various creative tools – rudimentary with the benefit of hindsight, but at the time seemingly filled to the brim with possibility. Its wide variety of animals and their various unique behaviors. That would be a lie – there is something charming and simple and clean about the original game. I don’t mean to insinuate that the game is only worthwhile because of its modding community. Or, it’s a stable, open to the public to view my beautiful herd of horses. Now, every time I open up a new save file, it’s a wide grassland just for my beautiful herd of horses. Designed with multiple coat colors, and all the normal behaviors, environmental needs, and features of animals in the games, it’s the perfect mod for me. The fanmade horses are, with hindsight, extremely impressive. It’s taken me hours of trial and error (after all, I don’t understand concepts like “zipped files” and I only sort of know how to navigate the cavernous, mysterious depths of my file directory), but as I open up Zoo Tycoon 2, I give a cheer when I finally see the little horse icon appear in the list of animals available for me to adopt. This is why I’ve worked to overcome numerous obstacles to download a fanmade horse mod right into the game. They’re cute, but they don’t scratch that itch. But it’s small and squat and, very key, only has one boring brown color. It’s got something called a Przewalski’s Wild Horse – and it’s horse like. For the other, they don’t live in the grasslands of my feverish dreams. For one thing – they’ve only got one color, as interesting as that one color is. I want to construct family lines of wild, free horses, and I want to watch every moment of it, like my own personal Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I want to watch them mingle, give them names, watch them have little baby horses together. What I want more than anything is to create wide-open grassy plain filled to the brim with wild horses. But, as I mentioned, I am a reformed horse girl. My favorite animals to do this with are animals I relate to, like the wolves. I observe the animals in their “natural” habitat. Once I’m done, I go into first person mode and explore the little habitat I’ve created. I open up a new zoo, close it down to guests, and then fully trick out the entire park’s area for one or two species of animals. Most of the time, though, I’m uninterested entirely in the “zoo” portion of the game. All of my animals must be perfectly happy and healthy at all times.īut this is only when I’m playing the game as it’s meant to be played… more or less. Reticulated Giraffe 3 needs more space! Manta Ray 6 dislikes being in such a smelly enclosure!) is like a shot to my heart, a little failure. Each red notification alert at the top of my screen alerting me of my animal’s needs (Emperor Penguin 4 cannot reach Food Dish 2. I don’t delete the fences on the lion enclosures and watch them chase the guests. I am a kindly goddess – I don’t play to torment the animals or the tiny polygonal people streaming into my zoo. All I know is drawing awkward, squat blobs in fence posts, plopping down 4 (2 boy 2 girl) animals inside, and using the “Zookeeper Recommends” menu to fully trick out each animal’s habitat. I don’t really know how to make my zoo monetarily successful. I have spent hours up to this point in Freeform mode, with unlimited money and access to every animal, building, structure, and building block in the game. I, a reformed horse girl and lifelong animal lover, have just found out how to download horses into my copy of Zoo Tycoon 2.ĭon’t get me wrong, I love Zoo Tycoon 2 just as it is. Picture me – I’m 10 or 11, sitting at the far end of our dining room table with my Mom’s old laptop propped open, fan loudly whirring away. |
